SCCRP

Café Selva Norte promotes forest conservation and the development of nature-based solutions to reduce greenhouse gas emissions associated with deforestation and the degradation of Peru’s tropical forests.

The Shade Coffee and Cacao Reforestation Project (SCCRP) is a grouped agroforestry initiative developed by Ecotierra under the Verified Carbon Standard (VCS, Project ID 1153), designed under methodology AR-ACM0003.

Implemented through the Café Selva Norte and Kuska initiatives and financed by Urapi, the project promotes the transition from degraded or unsustainable land use systems toward shade coffee and cacao agroforestry systems.

Our approach focuses on restoring degraded agricultural landscapes through shade-grown coffee and cacao agroforestry systems, while reducing greenhouse gas emissions and increasing carbon sequestration through strategic tree planting. We aim to strengthen coffee and cacao value chains through climate finance and technical support, improve livelihoods and economic resilience for smallholder producers, and promote sustainable land management and biodiversity conservation in the northern Peruvian Amazon.

The project aims to:

  • Establish over 3,700 hectares of agroforestry systems

  • Diversify income for over 3,000 producers and their families

  • Sequester  over 300k tCO₂e by 2039
